I am guessing that most of you have satellite or cable TV. At the Ranch, we don’t watch much TV. Frankly, we just don’t have time. Because of this, we have always had those small flat indoor antennas on each of our TV’s.

They are inexpensive and work reasonably well in receiving a few channels. About a month ago, the TV in the master bedroom stopped receiving a strong enough signal. You know when something happens, and your routine gets totally thrown off, and things just don’t feel right? Well, you will probably laugh at this, but that is how our morning routine has been for the last month. We typically watch local KGW news in the morning while we get ready for work. We get caught up on the happenings in the world (whether we want to hear it or not), the traffic, and most importantly, the weather. We are not sure what caused our little antenna in our bedroom to stop getting this specific channel, but it happened. It caused Greg to do research on antennas. He discovered the best thing for us is a large, non-directional antenna attached to the hangar. From there, it gets signals from both Salem and Portland.

We also got a four-way amplified splitter for the signal to go to four TV’s throughout the house.

In preparation for this, Greg routed coax cable from the amplified splitter to all four rooms (workout room, living room, master bedroom, and office).

After the antenna arrived and was installed, all we had to do was run a new search on each TV to discover the new channels.

I know this solution of saving hundreds of dollars every month would not work for everyone, especially sports fans, but it works for us. If we want to watch movies, we just do so through Amazon via WiFi.  Most importantly, we have our weather back in the morning and can start our day on the right foot. If you’re interested in becoming a farmer, having no time, and not being able to watch TV or relax, get yourself ranch and a set up like this! You might find you like it!
