If you have not read our post about maggot farming from back in August, check it out.
Over the years of using the top of our primary chicken coop run, we have turned well over 100 dead decaying animals into plump maggot treats for the chickens below. This decaying process on the chicken wire over the chicken run has become rusted and compromised. There are several holes, and we needed to find a better place for the maggot farm.
To get it a little farther from the house and poultry pasture gate, and to not completely build a new structure, we decided to add onto the structure we built in October to house the turkey feeder.
The small roof to house the turkey feeder was built from serious scraps, and this new maggot farm addition was no different. All that was needed were 2 new posts, some framing support and then some old fencing stretched across. Since the temporary turkey feeder area has conveniently turned into a chicken/duck feeder for all birds in the pasture to use, it is now kind of a community gathering center for 250 birds. A pretty good spot for a scrappy gross maggot farm, don’t you think? Look closely, and you can see our first victim, a dead duck.
It is a supper simple design using scraps around the farm.
