In early June, we had our yearly delivery of 60 two-day-old turkeys. That is the latest time in the year we can get baby turkeys, and we do this because we sell pasture-raised fresh turkeys just in time for Thanksgiving. Our turkeys are a month or two older and larger than you would normally buy from a local farmer, but those are frozen and held until Thanksgiving. Unlike chickens, turkeys are not bread all year long.

Due to a chain of unfortunate events, and mostly because young turkeys are very fragile, we have 16 turkeys alive today. Most died when they were just a few days old, and we attribute this to stress during shipping. We have had a couple die due to drowning (yes, they get in the duck pond & can’t get out), and we lose turkeys every year to racoons. Unfortunately, we expect to lose more to racoons between now and Thanksgiving, but we will do what we can to prevent it.

Due to low numbers, we have not been advertising or promoting turkeys for sale. We are selling all of them, but at this time they are spoken for just from people reaching out to us early. We do have a waiting list in case anyone backs out, so feel free to let us know if you would like to be on the list for 2020. Better yet, let us know if you would like to be put on the list for 2021.

We apologize to any of you who were hoping for a farm-fresh turkey. All I can say is it’s 2020, so I am not surprised. Hopefully, we have better luck next year, as we plan to buy locally to reduce shipping stress.
