Fall is here. The weather is changing, the kids are back in school, and pumpkin spice is at Starbucks. At the Ranch, you can always tell we have transitioned to fall when the pumpkins are harvested and lined up on the front porch.
Every year as the garden is coming to an end, we pick the remaining squash & pumpkins from the garden. You can tell it is time because all the greenery, vines and leaves, turn a grayish green color.
Once all out squash has been harvested and arranged on the porch for guests to enjoy, we clean out the beds in the garden. The vines are taken up to the high use area and thrown on the compost pile. The animals have access to the pile, so they usually eat most of it before it decomposes.
As it gets closer to Halloween, we will start to give pumpkins away to friends and family to carve and enjoy on their porch. We will each carve one of our own.
It is such a fun time of year. I encourage everyone to go out and enjoy some of the local pumpkin patches!!
