How is everyone doing?  With COVID-19, our lives have changed a bit. Greg and I are mostly working from home, so without the long commutes, we have a little more time to work on some little projects that keep getting put off and also to get the garden ready for planting in a couple of weeks. This week we added a little color to Peyton Palace and plan to let the kids add their touch to the area (little lawn, chairs, table, birdhouses, …)

I ventured out of the house this week and went to Costco to pick up a few things (still no TP or paper towels) but did find a mason bee house. I purchased it and then went to a close orchard supply store & bought the last of the mason bees they had for the season (17 tubes). We put it in the corner of the garden so the bees could reach the garden & the honeysuckle that cover our arbor up to the orchard. This new mason bee house will complement the other one up in the orchard.

A while back when we posted about our newest lamb I said I would come back and tell you the story about Spencer, so here it is. About two years ago, we were planning on leaving for a trip to Europe for three weeks. About a week before we left, one of our ewes gave birth to twins. The mother rejected one of the lambs. Since we were about to leave town, we could not bottle feed the bummer lamb, so one of our friends (Cori Austin) that lives in Portland offered. Her husband (Curt Erickson) didn’t have much choice.

When we got home, the friend asked if they could keep the lamb. They had become attached, like a dog.  We said sure. If it wasn’t for them, the lamb wouldn’t be alive. Cori bottle-fed the lamb for over 6 months, so Cori is now mom to the sheep. So that is Spencer. Spencer is a sheep that lives in Portland among humans and other (real) dogs. He gets taken for walks regularly and is a reason people say KEEP PORTLAND WEIRD because that is what we do.

Things are crazy out there, so do your part, stay home & stay safe.
