It is very rare, but ‘sometimes’ we spend time working on projects ‘inside’ the house.
We have wanted to replace the carpet in the bedrooms since we moved into the house but just never had the time or made it a priority. About two years ago we turned our main guest room into Emily’s office and ripped the carpet out of that room then. Instead of replacing it, she just scraped and painted the concrete floors and purchased a rug that covers most of the floor.
Over the last couple weeks, we had looked at a few options for flooring and got samples. Fairly quickly, we decided on vinyl over laminate. Vinyl is waterproof rather than water resistant and is much more durable in wet conditions. That is important even in the bedrooms when you have a farm where everything seems to get tracked inside by humans or dogs.
We selected a color that goes with all the crazy wood we have in the house. We landed with a light hickory that has a vain in it that is kind of reddish. Many samples that we looked at had a black grain through it that clashed with our current wood.
We spent four days installing the new flooring in the back three bedrooms and hallway.
That was then plan, and we were going to stop and just butt up against the current laminate that is about 7 years old. Well… we absolutely LOVE the new flooring and know if we do not buy enough flooring to do the entire house now, we will never be able to match it.
So, rather than going rafting on the Deschutes River like we had planned this weekend, we will be working on more flooring. We will get our panty, laundry room, and the hallway that connects them done. The weekend after will be the kitchen, dining, and living room. Then another weekend in the future, we will tackle the entry hallway and office.
After this project is complete, we will have one more bathroom in the house to re-floor, and the entire house will have new floors. Six years in the making! If any of you reading this blog have any interest in helping, by all means, you are welcome to come over!
